Horse Powered Reading®
For over a decade, Horse Powered Reading® has been brightening the lives of young readers through interacting and engaging with our horses. (No riding involved!) While using toys and props to identify obstacles, they can learn five critical reading skills: phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Our young readers see and experience reading with their entire mind, body and emotions by creating metaphors for the skills involved in reading.

THE STORY BEHIND OUR HERD
Previously Untouched Wild Mustangs
All of our teachers, the horses, originated from a herd of previously untouched wild mustangs and each one is a superstar.
The original herd was used to haul the coal cars through the tunnels within the coal mines in the Drumheller Valley. They had to be below a certain height because the tunnels were as tall as the coal seams in the mines. These ponies were called Pit Ponies, because their job was to work in the mine pits, and they were perfect for the job because they were strong, smart little equines. Nowadays, though, this is a heritage herd that roams freely on a ranch in southern Alberta.
Our teachers have a quiet, even temperament and are incredibly kind - making them extraordinary teachers. They are non-judgemental, as they have no preconceived ideas of humans before coming to The Sage Mustang!

We help people understand what they need to change behaviourally and how to make those changes by paralleling everything that happens in the arena back to real life! Without becoming aware of basic life skills, people are unable to understand the process to implement the adjustments needed for real change. Our Skills Programs are integral support to other programming in that they allow people to make the changes needed for their lives - not because someone told them to - but because they made the choice themselves to achieve a different outcome!
